Wilmat Development Foundation in partnership with different companies and governments agencies have embarked on providing students in Universities across the country with investment and business skills so that they can create own jobs during and after studies.
During a public dialogue held at Makerere University Business School on Monday, The Head of Communication and Marketing at Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), Denis Dokoria, said that UIRI as a government agency with incubation center in innovative product development, and value addition, they welcome students with innovative ideas so that they can be developed into products that can offer employment.
Dokotia advised students to embrace the idea of starting small, urging them to have the desire to grow.
“Don’t underestimate starting small, the bigger opportunities will get you along the way and grow. As you leave or still at university, start building the investment to avoid dependence,” he said.
Alvin Mutebi, Head Communication and Advocacy at Willmat Development Foundation said that with the high rate of business students joining the job market, there is need for students to learn how to use the knowledge acquired to transform the economy they live in to avoid importing technical experts from other countries.
He added that there is need for students to identify existing opportunities in both public and the private sector.
“Students need to transfer the knowledge from university to have an output in the business environment through planning for investment without even lamenting on the curriculum structure,” he said.
Willmat Development Foundation is continuing to traverse more universities including Kampala International University, Victoria University among others to enlighten students to prepare for the working environment after university.
