Uganda’s junior golf talent continues to shine on the international stage as 17-year-old Peter Mayende departs for the United Arab Emirates to compete in the Annual UAE Golf Championship, one of the most competitive junior golf tournaments on the U.S. Kids Golf international circuit.

Mayende earned his place at the championship after an exceptional performance during the NCBA Junior Golf Series, where he dominated the highly competitive Boys 15–18 category. He shot an impressive round of 70, finishing two-under par, the only under-par score recorded in the entire tournament. His remarkable display of precision, composure, and mental toughness secured him the top spot and a ticket to represent Uganda at the global event.

Speaking at the send-off, NCBA Bank Chief executive officer, Mark Muyobo said Mayende’s performance reflected years of consistent discipline and dedicated training.

“A score like that is not a product of luck. It comes from countless hours of practice and a deep understanding of the game. Peter has shown maturity, focus, and commitment rarely seen at his age,” he noted.

Mayende is now set to compete at the Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al-Khaimah, a world-class course renowned for hosting future stars in international junior golf. The annual UAE championship attracts top junior golfers from across the world, offering competitors exposure, mentorship, and an opportunity to measure themselves against the best in their age group.

Muyobo said supporting Mayende’s journey aligns fully with the purpose of the NCBA Junior Golf Series, which was launched to create opportunities for young golfers to grow and compete at elite levels. The series provides coaching, competitive platforms, and exposure, elements that he said are transforming Uganda’s junior golf landscape.

“When we look at Peter, we see what happens when raw talent meets opportunity. We know that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. Our role, therefore, is to create pathways for young people to excel,” Muyobo said.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Junior golf series wrapped up its first season of the 2025
