Preparations are underway for the forthcoming Uganda -Tanzania Business Forum scheduled to take place from 4th – 5th September 2019 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, in Dar es Salam – Tanzania
The Business Forum will take place under the theme “Promoting bilateral trade and investment for growth and sustainable development”.
The Forum is organized by the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam in partnership with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF).
The primary objective of this Business Forum is to provide a platform to the business communities from Uganda and Tanzania to share experiences; establish networks; identify opportunities and challenges of on-going trade and investment, and showcase their products and services at an exhibition.
The 3rd Inter Ministerial Preparatory Meeting held yesterday 25th June 2019 at the Ministry and Co- chaired by the Ag. Head of the Regional Economic Cooperation Department, Michael Wamai and Dr. Aziz Ponary MLIMA, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Uganda, was informed that participants from the private sector in Uganda and Tanzania will be drawn from the following strategic sectors: Agriculture, Mining, Tourism, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Health, Education , Agro Processing to mention but a few.
The Inter-ministerial Preparatory Meeting was composed of different Government Officials and Officials from various Ministries, Departments & Agencies
Ambassador Mlima informed the Meeting that preparations in Dar es Salaam are being led by the Tanzanian Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) which is the focal point for the East African Business Council.
Its members are business associations, corporate companies, multinationals, SMES and startups organized under different sector boards and working groups reflective of the various sectors of the economy.
TPSF provides a platform for the private sector to engage in Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) at the local, national and international levels.
The Foundation opens potential markets for its members through business forums and participation in local and international trade fairs, as well as offering programs to build the capacity of members to become competitive.
The High Commissioner informed that Tanzania remains a globally competitive destination for investment and doing business. This business Forum he noted aimed at promoting Economic growth and sustainable development for both Tanzania and Uganda.
The meeting was also informed that the Forum will bring together approximately 400 participants including: Business Community from Uganda and Tanzania; Senior Government officials; policy makers; and political leaders; Analysts/Economists/Legal Experts/professionals, International Organizations, multinational agencies and development partners, Leading local and regional media houses.
The Forum will be presided over by their Excellencies the Heads of State of Uganda and Tanzania. It will be a one day private-sector led event to discuss trade and investment opportunities between Uganda and Tanzania in order to facilitate trade between the two countries.
