Third-place playoffs
Zambia 0-1 Uganda
Uganda has beaten Zambia 1-0 at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay to win the bronze medal of the on-going COSAFA Women championships, which ends tomorrow. The final will be contested by Cameroon and hosts South Africa.
A first half penalty from Tracy Akiror in the 33rd was enough to secure, the guest side a much needed victory.
Uganda, who were playing against the wind in the second half had to battle non-stop attacks from the Zambians, but the predictable nature of the Zambians was easily dealt with by the Ugandans.
It was the best performance yet from a guest nation since the tournament was first played in 2002, one better than Kenya’s fourth-place finish last year.
Coach Faridah Bulega was thrilled with her team’s character.
Starting line-up: Aturo, Lilian Mutuuzo, Aluka, Nabbumba, Nalugya, Malukenge, Tracy Akiror, Nanziri, Namukisa, Nankya and Namuddu
