Only 270 minutes of football separate Vipers from their third league trophy. The Venoms have been unstoppable since the arrival of Technical Development Manager (TDM) Eddie Butindo since he was appointed last year in December.
The Kitende side, who won the league title in the 2009/10 and 2014/15 season, have not lost a game since then strolling to a 15-unbeaten run in the league.
After Friday’s 2-0 win over visiting Police FC, Vipers need just seven points from the available nine in their last three games.
They can only be disturbed by hard fighting Kirinya Jinja SS, who beat them 1-0 last season at their home as relegation bound UPDF, who held the Venoms to a 1-1 draw in the first round, visit Kitende, where no team has won since URA’s surprising 2-1 win in November last year.
Their rescheduled game with Express FC, who are fighting for dear life could count to nothing if the chasing pack of Villa or KCCA drop any points in their remaining games.
Villa has a tricky title run-in with UPDF as their next opponent yet both relegation-threatened Proline and Express lie in wait before the final day fixture against BUL FC.
Villa, who will curse the two docked points over reported indiscipline against Vipers, have struggled especially at Express and that should serve for a mouthwatering fixture.
Yet KCCA, who have a clogged fixture, will have to balance adequately among their Uganda cup, CAF Champions League and Super League assignments.
Between now and the season end, the defending champions have five games to play.
