Boda bodas are only allowed to carry goods
Motorcycle taxi operators in Uganda have sued the government for denying them permission to carry passengers.
The riders’ association says the government is discriminating against their business and allowing every other business to operate with regulations.
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni allowed public transport to carry passengers at half capacity to ensure social distancing.
He however said it would be premature to allow the motorcycle taxis, known as boda bodas, saying there was barely any distance between passengers and riders.
The president only allowed the motorcycles to carry goods.
The boda boda operators have been protesting against the decision.
They say the government has not given them money to cushion themselves against loss of income arising from the decision.
