Uganda Airlines Set To Launch Loyalty Programme That Will Benefit Frequent Travellers

Uganda Airlines is set to launch a loyalty programme before the end of this month

Uganda  Airlines has finalized plans to launch a mileage/loyalty programme that will benefit frequent travellers.

Jennifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer at Uganda Airlines made the revelation on the sidelines of the flag off event for Muslim pilgrims to Mecca held at Entebbe International Airport recently.

“The Loyalty Program is in test mode. It has been in test mode for about eight months because we wanted to make sure that it was seamless. The Mobile App is also in test mode and we’ll be launching them at the end of this month (June),” Bamuturaki said while responding to our reporter’s question on plans by the national carrier to launch a loyalty initiative for customers.

In an earlier interview with Business Focus, Bamuturaki said that the loyalty programme also known as the frequent-flyer programme “is a friendly miles programme whereby every dollar you spend, you earn miles which can be redeemed for an air ticket or baggage/cargo allowance) which will give customers a totally new experience.”

She added: “It will also include hotels, car rentals wherever we will fly. It will have a lot of things in one; we are making it flexible and interesting for customers.”

Many airlines have frequent-flyer programmes designed to encourage airline customers enrolled in the program to accumulate points (also called miles, kilometers, or segments) which may then be redeemed for air travel or other rewards. Points earned under this initiative may be based on the class of fare, distance flown on that airline or its partners, or the amount paid.

Uganda Airlines’ current network includes scheduled flights to 11 destinations in eight countries including Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya; Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Kinshasa in DR Congo, Bujumbura in Burundi, Juba in South Sudan, Mogadishu in Somalia, Johannesburg in South Africa, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Other new international routes planned for commencement include Mumbai, Guangzhou, London, Jeddah and Riyadh; as well as more African destinations like Lagos, Goma, Lusaka, Harare and Cape Town.
