Tropical Bank has boosted this year’s Kabaka’s Birthday Run with Shs5M..
Speaking at the hand over event at their Lugogo Bypass main branch on Wednesday, Tropical Bank Acting Managing Director, Dennis Kakeeto said that the bank wanted to be part of the cause to end the Sickle Cell Disease and connect with the people.
“We are trying to eradicate the disease by working with the Kabaka; we have contributed Shs5M for the noble cause,” he said.
Ronald Kawaddwa, the CEO of Mengo’s Majestic Brands applauded Tropical Bank and intimated that the Marathon this time is targeting over 60,000 participants.
Last year over 40,000 people participated and Shs150M was raised.
He said that 21% of Sickle Cell lies within the Buganda Region and the huge 75% is within Kampala.
About 33,000 babies are born with the disease annually and 80% of them don’t live before the age of 5.
This year’s the marathon is scheduled for Sunday and will see participants run 5, 10 and 21kms depending on their choice.
