Uganda’s Leading flower exporter, Rosebud Ltd, Friday donated 2000 mattresses to 10 villages in Namulanda.
The company is owned by businessman, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, and exports about 150 million roses annually, according its Managing Director, Rajiv Ruparelia.
While handing over the mattresses and other household items to 10 villages employed by Rosebud Farm, he revealed that the company has obtained an international certification which he said allows the company to sell in many countries. This, he said, will mean that there will more demand and will require that the company increases production to meet the demand across the world.
“We now have International certification which means Uganda now exports quality flowers to all major markets. We have also attained fair trade standards which means we sell at good values which benefits the country and our workforce.” Rajiv said.
Rajiv says the expansion of the business will increase revenue for the country and employment.
“The market abroad is very big. Even if we increase the acreage of our farms, we will not satisfy the entire market. This means we need to increase productivity using good farm practices that we have used for many years. If you work hard, we shall all benefit as a family,” he said.
He called for unity and hard work emphasizing the need to amicably address any disagreements that may arise.
“We are a family and trust me your interest is our interest. We are all in this together to ensure your livelihoods are improved. That you can take your children to school and have a good life. So lets work hard together to achieve together,” he noted.
According to Rajiv, by the year 2000, the farm hard 13 hectares but to day, it has over 60 hectares under greenhouses and employing over 1500 staff.
