Bukonzo West FDC MP, Godfrey Katusabe Artiken caused shock in Kasese district after he officiated over the defection of opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters to the ruling NRM party in the presence of President Yoweri Museveni.
Atkins who also doubles as the so called Foreign Affairs Minister in the Besigye formed ‘Peoples Government’ was hosting President Yoweri Museveni in his constituency on Friday.
“President Yoweri Museveni flanked by Bukonzo West MP, FDC’s Godfrey Katusabe Artiken (centre) pose with FDC supporters who defected to the NRM Party, after addressing a rally at Karambi grounds in Kasese district,” Lindah Nabisayi, the president’s Press Secretary posted on Facebook.
The unprecedented defection happened after Museveni addressed a rally at Karambi grounds.
“Primarily, I was in Kasese to remind the residents about NRM’s formula of improving household income. You must differentiate between development (roads, electricity etc) and wealth (individual income). The government will bring you development but you must work for your wealth,” Museveni said.
He added, “I thank the people of Kasese for the warm reception, the area NRM leaders for organizing the activities and the area MP, Hon Godfrey Katusabe of the FDC, for supporting them. I am glad we had a successful bi-partisan gathering.”
