State House Speaks Out On Prof. Nuwagaba ‘Appointment’ As Bank Of Uganda Governor

Early on Sunday morning, there were rumors over the social media alleging that veteran economist, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba (pictured), had been appointed as the Governor, Bank of Uganda. Prof. Nuwagaba is also an International Consultant On Economic Transformation.

According to the ‘rumor’, President Yoweri Museveni who also doubles as the Appointing Authority was to announce Prof. Nuwagaba’s appointment in the coming week.

But according to Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy President Secretary to the President, “It’s not true that Prof. Nuwagaba has been appointed BOU Governor.”

For over a year now, the Governor seat at the Central Bank has been empty, following the death of Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, who died in early 2022. Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego, the Deputy Governor remains in charge to date.

Kirunda adds that President Yoweri Museveni knows his duty and when he makes such an appointment, it will be communicated officially.”
