The smuggler had various motorcycle spare parts
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement team in Busitema has impounded a Fuso truck Reg No. UBH877K that was found transporting smuggled motorcycle spare parts and accessories.
On the afternoon of Saturday, March 16th, the team received credible information regarding a Fuso truck in Busia that was laden with goods purportedly purchased from Kampala.
They set to work covertly trailing the truck until it was sighted along Amungura-Tororo Road on the way to Mbale and Lira.
It was subsequently secured near Malaba Bridge and delivered to the Busitema tactical base, where closer inspection revealed 180 motorcycle tyres, 20 boxes of vehicle headlamp covers with fittings, 20 boxes of sprocket chain motorcycle spare parts, 6 boxes of motorcycle headlamp accessories, and 4 pieces of motorcycle wheels.
The driver presented EFRIS receipts to ascertain the legibility of the goods, but these were established to be fake.
“Upon further scrutiny of serial numbers from our system, one of them misrepresented the goods in question, and the other two were non-existent. At this point, we suspected forgery of documents and outright smuggling of goods,” explained Moses Cherukut, a customs officer attached to the Busitema checkpoint. He was handed over to Revenue Intelligence for further case management.
