Soap & Fuel Prices Will Stabilize, Ggoobi Assures Ugandans

The Secretary to Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi (pictured) has assured Ugandans that the prices of fuel and soap will stablise in the near future.

However, he he didn’t explain plans government is undertaking to curb the crisis.

Ggoobi’s remarks were in response to a concern raised by one citizen, Edens Matovu Kalanda who took to twitter to protest the escalating prices of the two items.

He wrote, “A bar of soap is now Shs58,00 from Shs3,500, Petrol is Shs5,000 from Shs3900. A liter of cooking is at Shs8,800 from Shs42,00. Can we look at these issues which make Ugandans hate their nation!”

In response, the Secretary to the Treasury wrote, “This is typical of prices in market economies. COVID-related as well some policy-related distortions caused the price spikes. We are working on the issues and the prices will certainly re-converge to pre-pandemic levels in the short- to medium term.”

Ggoobi’s remarks come a few days after angry Ugandans blasted him for focusing on English Premier league games, as the citizens get swallowed up by the escalating prices.

This was after he commented about the match between Manchester City and Tottenham, with many wondering if the Secretary has failed at running the economy and turned into a sports pundit.
