Rajiv Ruparelia (pictured),  the Managing Director of Ruparelia Group, the owners of 88.2 Sanyu FM has revealed that the radio station will even get better after the exit of senior staff aka untouchables who were forced out after protesting 25% salary cut by management.

Last Saturday, Sanyu FM workers laid down their tools protesting management’s proposal to cut their salaries by 25% due to COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the Ugandan economy and thus crippling advertising revenue for not only radio stations, but the entire media industry.

Speaking to our reporter, Rajiv revealed that the radio station management didn’t sack anybody but the staff decided to abandon work over a proposal to reduce their salaries by 25% in light of COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that most of the staff were misled by James Onen aka Fat Boy, but some have since apologized and returned to work.

Patrick Idringi, known as Patrick Salvado has since replaced Fat Boy on a temporary basis for one of the best breakfast Shows in Uganda that runs from 6-10am Monday to Friday.

“Let’s correct the narrative. Dr.Sudhir Ruparelia didn’t fire any one, they chose to lay down tools because management proposed just a 25% cut off salaries for obvious reasons, the rest of the world is aware, only Sanyu Fm staff are not, I think,” Rajiv said.

He added: “Sanyu FM will even get better (after exit of some senior staff). Talented young presenters have an opportunity to shine. They can send in their applications.”

He added that the management’s proposal to cut salaries by 25% was well thought out to enable the company go through this tough period without laying off anybody.

“There’re no adverts now, no company wants to spend money on ads, and that’s where they mainly generate their salaries,” he said.

Sanyu FM is one of the oldest and one of the leading FM Radio stations in Capital Kampala, which has gained a great fan base for its social programming that relate with the common man and City youth.
