Profile: Meet Stephen Asiimwe, The New PSFU Executive Director

The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) has appointed Stephen Asiimwe (pictured) as its new executive director.

He replaces the late Gideon Badagawa, who passed away in June this year (2021).

Since Badagawa’s death, the deputy executive director, Francis Kisirinya, has been the acting executive director.

Asiimwe’s appointment takes immediate effect, said Dr. Elly Karuhanga, the PSFU board chairman. Before his appointment, Asiimwe was PFSU’s director of policy and business development, a position he has served in for one year.

“The board would like to particularly thank Mr. Kisirinya for leading the transitional process. The board also appreciates management and staff for the great work of holding ship,” said Dr. Karuhanga in a statement.

He added: “Asiimwe has experience spanning over 30 years in both government and private sector at management, leadership and business leadership levels in Uganda and globally.

We request you to give him complete cooperation so that he can deliver the best of his services for the benefits of the staff, Board, PSFU members, the private sector and Uganda as a whole.”

Asiimwe has previously served as Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Executive Director. This was between 2014 and 2019.

Before joining UTB, he was the chief executive and Editor-in-Chief of the East African Business Week from 2004 to 2014.

He also worked at New Vision as a reporter, sub-editor and Business Editor from 1993-2004.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Management from the US-based Development Associates International (DAI) affiliated to Uganda Christian University (UCU).

He is also a BA Social Sciences graduate of Political Science and Sociology from Makerere University.

Asiimwe has a host of post-graduate certificates and diplomas in Management, Education, Marketing, IT and Corporate Governance, among others.
