Kabugho Mary Marylin
Kasese district will be keenly watched in next year’s general elections following the departure of Winnie Kiiza as woman Member of Parliament.
The opposition stalwart who announced that she wont be seeking reelection next year, had dominated Kasese politics, representing the district for three terms, a period in which she also served as the country’s first female Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
Her departure means there will be paradigm shift in voters elect, according to observing with many predicting that the seat may fall to the rulina National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
An online survey has revealed that Marylin Kabugho is favourite to win scoop the post as the NRM prepares for primaries slated for 4th September 2020.
Marilyn is a senior policy analyst at parliament and an active member of the NRM.
The race also includes; Sarah Masereka Baleke who came in second, Norah Matsande, Saddress Kayiri and Lushenge.
The poll conducted on popular Survey Monkey, gives Marilyn a landslide lead with 87.50% of the votes in her favor.
Sarah polled 7.50% while Norah and Saddress each got 2.50% of the vote.
The NRM according to political observers is working tooth and nail to ‘reclaim Kasese’ which has all lawmakers from the opposition.
It waits to be seen if that will be achieved.
