The Omusinga (king) of Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has instructed his prime minister to gather information about all ministers and other kingdom officials planning to participate in elective politics ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to Mumbere’s communication, individuals with intentions to engage in political elections must declare their interests. The decision is aimed at preventing a direct mixing of politicians within the institution. Mumbere emphasized that he expects to receive the names and resignation letters from those intending to pursue elective politics, allowing them to be released from all Kingdom administrative responsibilities.
Since his return to the Kingdom in October of the previous year, Mumbere has consistently advocated for peaceful coexistence among the subjects and discouraged any involvement of the kingdom in political matters.
He maintains that the army-led attack on the palace in 2016, which resulted in over 100 casualties and more than 200 arrests, was orchestrated by self-seekers who used the kingdom as a political tool.
