Ntare School Alumni has lauded the appointment of Professor Charles Kwesiga as chairman Board of Governors.
Prof. Charles Kwesiga was recently sworn in as the new Chairman of Board of Governors of Ntare School.
Kwesiga is a prominent’Old Boy’ (OB) who also doubles as the Executive Director of Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI).
Ntare school has produced prominent people in society including two seating presidents, that is HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda and HE Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
An Industrial Engineer by profession, Charles Kwesiga has significant experience as a corporate manager, management consultant, educator, and entrepreneur. For example, by 1986 he was Director of Internal Performance for a 3000-strong Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, after a short stint as Manager of Industrial Engineering in the same company.
As Executive Director of UIRI he has overseen the Institute’s activities that include: technology transfer; technology diffusion; process and product development; business incubation; contract engineering services and applied R&D. Kwesiga is credited with transforming UIRI from a backwater department at Ministry of Trade and Industry to a Centre of Excellence in R&D for EAC (East African Community). Currently the metamorphosed Institute operates at the auspices of Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations.
Highly regarded by his peers and other professionals, Professor Kwesiga’s other extra-curricular activities, prestigious assignments, and calls to duty include the following:
•He was elected President of WAITRO (World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations) for a two-year term, Jan 2015/Dec 2016, after rising through the ranks as Regional Representative for Africa, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President then full President. First African to hold that position since WAITRO’s founding in 1970.
•Special Presidential Assistant (advisor) for Productivity and Competitiveness, on retainer.
•Member of Board of Control of Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka (KSCSC)
•Dr Kwesiga once served as one of the five-member advisory team for United Nations Economic Council for Africa (UNECA) on Africa Technology Transfer Networks.
•He is also the Vice Chairman of Board of Directors of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
•Kwesiga pioneered the establishment of UPIK (Uganda Petroleum Institute at Kigumba).
Prof Kwesiga, a Patron of several associations, is married to Justina and is a father of four – one of whom is a full Professor, Eileen N. Kwesiga, in Rhode Island, USA.
With such a background, it is only logical to expect that our OB will help our (already) great almer mater to ascend even higher heights. Congratulations.
