National Science Week Returns With Emphasis On Socio-Economic Transformation

STI Minister, Dr. Monica Musenero while addressing the press this morning at the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat in Naguru, Kampala.

The Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat has announced National Science Week 2023.

This year’s Science Week will be held between November 6, 2023, and November 11, 2023.

While presiding over the launch this morning, the Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero, said the National Science Week will be held under the theme “Uganda Tusimbudde: Our Science-Led Journey Towards Socio-Economic Transformation.”

Dr. Musenero said the theme aligns well with the country’s approach to moving Uganda from a peasant to a modern economy by 2040.

However, she said that for Uganda to move to a modern economic status, there has to be a total social-economic transformation.

She noted that the shift to a modern economy will also mean value addition, away from just primary production.

To this end, Dr. Musenero said Science and Innovation is key in Uganda’s transformation journey.

During the Science Week, therefore, STI, through its agencies, the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), among others, will showcase the different innovations so as to give the public an update on where the country is headed.
