In a heartwarming gesture that underscores the company’s commitment to empowering local businesses, MTN Uganda today handed over a brand-new pickup truck to Night Ampurire, a hardworking entrepreneur and single mother of five from Entebbe. The handover ceremony took place at Kitoro, Entebbe, with MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer, Sylvia Mulinge, presenting the car keys to Ampurire.

Ampurire, a single mother of five, has been a pillar in her family and community, transporting and selling fresh farm produce such as watermelons and pineapples. Since 2015, she has relied on a secondhand Nissan pickup truck registration number UAD 085B, which she purchased on an installment basis for UGX 3.5 million.

Despite her dedication and the critical role her business plays in supporting her family, Ampurire’s vehicle had fallen into a state of disrepair, making it increasingly difficult and dangerous for her to carry out her daily operations. The state of her old vehicle, which was deteriorating with each passing day, was putting her life at risk. Yet, despite these challenges, Ampurire continued to push forward, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination.

Recently, her inspiring story of resilience and determination was featured in a widely shared news clip on national television, capturing the attention and admiration of many Ugandans, including the team at MTN Uganda, that unanimously decided to support her with a brand-new Nissan pickup truck in the spirit of MTN’s mantra, “Together we are unstoppable,” the company recognized Ampurire’s hustle and the importance of supporting small businesses that are the backbone of the local economy. MTN Uganda’s support is a testament to the belief that every hustle deserves recognition and assistance.

Speaking at the handover, Sylvia Mulinge, MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “At MTN Uganda, we believe in the power of community and the importance of uplifting each other. Night Ampurire’s story is a powerful reminder of the determination and resilience that define our people. We are both honored and proud to support her journey and hope that this new pickup truck will help her expand her business and ensure her safety, and that of other road users as she continues to provide for her family and serve both her community and clientele better.”

Ampurire expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is a dream come true for me and my family. MTN Uganda has not only given me a new vehicle but also the hope and strength to keep pushing forward. I am deeply thankful for their support, and I am excited about what the future holds for my business.”

The car came with a baby car seat, a full tank of fuel and comprehensive motor-insurance.

Mulinge further thanked the team at NTV that shared Ampurire’s moving story of resilience: “MTN Uganda would also like to extend a heartfelt vote of thanks to the editorial team at NTV Uganda for bringing Night Ampurire’s story to light. Their commitment to sharing stories that matter has not only highlighted the challenges faced by hardworking entrepreneurs but has also paved the way for meaningful support and change. This partnership between media and community is vital in driving the positive impact we all strive for and it goes to show that indeed, together we are unstoppable.”
