Minister: Refugees To Blame For Ruhaama MP’s Death

The death of Ruhaama County MP, William Beijukye has taken a new twist, with State Minister for Veteran Affairs, Bright Rwamirama blaming it on the influx of refugees in Uganda, who bring strange diseases in the country.

He made the remarks on Monday afternoon during a special sitting held to pay tribute to fallen MP who died at Nsambya Hospital on Saturday after battling Hepatitis B.

Rwamirama described Beijukye as a pleasant fellow who was full of purpose, noting that Government did whatever was necessary to save him, but God had other plans.

“Uganda has been a very peaceful country. We have allowed refugees to settle here. When these refugees come, they bring diseases. It is important to make sure all refugees that come here are vaccinated,” Rwamirama said.

The late Beijukye was born on September 8th 1971 and replaced First Lady Janet Museveni as MP for Ruhaama County in 2016, after she bowed out of elective politics in 2015.

He was married and left behind four children; 3 boys and one girl.

He will be laid to rest tomorrow at his ancestral home in Ntungamo district. He becomes the fourth MP to die since the inception of the 10th Parliament.
