Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli has heaped praise on his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, saying Uganda has grown tremendously under him.
Magufuli made the remarks over the weekend while hosting Museveni in Chato, Tanzania.
“President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is a brother and indeed, a true friend. Flying all the way from Angola just to come here to Chato is a show of the love he has deep in his heart for Tanzania. I am very honored,” Magufuli said.
He added, “Likewise, Ugandans and Tanzanians are brothers and sisters, our relationship should not be about talking, but working together to transform our economies. Uganda is growing tremendously under Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s guidance and we should work together for the benefit of all our people.”
President Museveni said Tanzania was of immense historical importance to him and Uganda, and urged the citizens to take advantage of their development in order to have personal wealth.
“While Christians go to Rome, Muslims to Mecca, I come to Tanzania as my pilgrimage. I am happy to be here. I have a lot of historical attachments to this place. It is like a home to me,” President Museveni said.
He added, “Development is infrastructure for all of us. But wealth is for our homes. If
President Magufuli makes a good road, you don’t come and sleep on the road to enjoy the development. Go and engage in productive services, for instance rear cows, goats, if not Muslim then try pigs that will result into your personal wealth.”
Museveni who was from Angola, held discussions centered on bilateral, regional and continental matters with Magufuli.
