President Yoweri Museveni has said all motorcycle (boda boda) riders will get new helmets with numbers at the back in a move to curb crime.
A teary Museveni made the remarks during the send off ceremony of assassinated Arua Municipality MP Col. Ibrahim Abiriga held in Lukudu Village, Eramva Parish, Rhino Camp Sub County in Lower Madi Constituency, Arua District on Monday.
“All boda boda riders will get new helmets with shining numbers at the back so that they can be noticed at night. No more hoods,” an angry and teary Museveni said.
It is reported that Abiriga killers were riding numberless motorcycles and covered with hoods. The ‘yellow’ lawmaker was gunned down together with his brother on Friday evening.
Museveni said they are doing so to look for that assassin which he called needle in the three million people in Kampala.
He said Government can’t use to roadblocks because it would cause unnecessary traffic jam and interrupt business.
Museveni, who described the assassins as pigs warned against the use of hate speech, noting that government is going to tighten control of social media. Abiriga is survived with 9 children and one wife.
The President said that government will take care of all Abiriga’s children and those of his brother and their widows.
“I will also look after the clan. My office (Office of the President will help them form a SACCO and I will put Shs50m in that SACCO so that it becomes their small bank,” he said.
