Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, (MGLSD) has retired some staff and awarded the best departments and outstanding staff in 2019.
This was done during the end of the year party held at the ministry headquarters on Simbamanyo building on 13th Friday 2019.
It was presided over by the Outgoing Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Janat Mukwaya, who extended gratitude to the hardworking departments and staff.
She wished them a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year and bid farewell to the retired officials who had served the ministers for several decades.
Martin Wandera, a Director at the ministry and Chairman, Rewards and Recognition Committee announced that the department of Disability and Elderly stood out as the Best Performing Department of 2019 while the Employee of the year award was received by Paul Nepa for his core values of fairness, commitment, team player and strategic thinking. He was followed by Daren Rutagwa as 1st Run-up and Venie Kabagenyi as 2nd run-up.
Wandera also announced the retirement of 6 ministry officials.
“After serving the Republic of Uganda, thank you for your great work you have performed successfully while with us,” he thanked the retired officials.
Acting Permanent Secretary, MGLSD, James Ebitu highlighted key achievement in the ministry especially in the policy and programmes during 2019.
He pointed out that in the policy areas, the ministry‘s main achievements included the processing of the People with Disability bill which was ascended to by the President and tabling other bills like NSSF Act amendment bill, labor disputes bill, among others. He added that in the programmes that the ministry successfully achieved included rolling out of the Social Assistance Grant for Employment (SAGE) countrywide, scaling up of PWD grant with additional Shs2.1 Billion, designing Youth Livelihood prgramme (YLP) phase II, commissioning rehabilitation centers across the country, signing of more bilateral ties with foreign countries for externalization of labour among other achievements.
Ebitu said that the ministry is also focusing of new commitments for the year 2020 which he says will be prioritized.
“All the departments have come up with commitments for 2010, among the priority areas we shall focus on phase II of the YLP, consolidate the SAGE programme in all districts, extend the labour professionals, apprenticeship and graduate volunteers programme among others,” he said.
