Kampala International University (KIU) has issued a statement confirming the arrest of four students including the head of the Rwanda Students’ Association.
The Thursday statement confirms reports that the students including; Emmanuel Namanya, Living Kagara, Andrew Mugisha and Joram Namwojo (Leader of Rwanda students’ association), were arrested by security forces on the 26th and 27th of November 2019.
It adds that the students have since missed their examinations as a result of the arrests.
On Thursday, social media was awash with news that the students have been arrested by Uganda’s military.
The military has not made any statement on the said arrests.
It is not clear why the students were arrested, however, the university says they are following up on the matter to find out where the students are being detained.
At the time we published this story, police had not responded to our queries on the matter.
