Kayunga LCV By-election: NRM Party Leaders Campaign For NUP Candidate

Two National Resistance Movement-NRM leaders in Kayunga are backing the National Unity Platform (NUP) Candidate, Harriet Nakwede for the Kayunga LCV Chairperson seat.

The leaders include the Party Publicity Secretary Joseph Ouma and Patrick Nsanja Kayongo, the Member of Parliament for Ntenjeru South County. Nsanja contested as an Independent candidate after losing to Baseke Fred in the NRM party primaries.

They say that they feel betrayed by the NRM leadership and the lack of transparency among the party leaders.

Nsanja says for the better development of the district, he decided to join Nakwede and committed to protecting her votes against any sort of rigging by the NRM party.

“We only have one position to vote for and that is the LCV seat, I have been moving with the NRM party and convinced they are good at rigging votes but this time they should understand the team I have joined is ready to protect its votes,” he said.

However, the NRM Party Spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa says Nsanja and the team are free to join any camp of their choice. He adds that the party’s disciplinary committee for the party will decide on the next course of action against the two leaders.

The race has attracted six candidates including Andrew Muwonge of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Harriet Nakwede of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Anthony Waddimba from the Democratic Party (DP) and independent candidates; Boniface Bandikubi,  Majid Nyanzi and Jamil Kamoga. They are all seeking to replace Feffeka Serubogo, who died just months after taking office.
