Buganda’s K2 Telecom has gone off air leaving at least 150,000 subscribers stranded. K2 telecom, which uses the 073 code, has been off since Monday this week.
The company offers voice calls, sms and internet data services. Livingstone Kitata, the K2 Telecom Public Relations Officer, says they went off due to technical problems.
He says their hosts Smart Telecom and Uganda Telecom have failed to provide technical support to stem interference. According to Kitata, they have been grappling with interferences and disruptions, which have made it difficult for their subscribers to receive or make calls.
Kitata says they reported the matter to both Smart and Uganda Telecoms but the problem hasn’t been resolved. He however, says they hope the matter will be resolved within the next 72 hours.
The management of Smart Telecom and UTL haven’t yet commented as they couldn’t be reached. Steven Kaboyo, the Chairman Uganda Telecom Ltd could neither pick nor return repeated calls from our reporter to his known mobile.
