Jinja City Deputy Clerk, Engineer Wanted Over Theft Of Road Unit

Police in the Kiira region is hunting for three staff of Jinja City Council over the missing road construction equipment and a vehicle. The officials are Deputy City Clerk Jinja Peter Mawerere, Assistant City Engineer Lydia Nabirye, and the acting senior law enforcement officer Dennis Bimbonh.

The missing equipment includes; two skip loaders with registration numbers LG 0018-12 and UR 1602, respectively, a bulldozer, a tractor, and a grounded vehicle of SUV series.

A police detective who is privy to the investigations says that Mawerere’s relatives have informed them that, he is bedridden in a private hospital in Mukono district and he cannot report to the police.

While addressing journalists on Saturday, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, James Mubi said that they received complaints from whistleblowers indicating that the equipment has been missing for almost two weeks.

Mubi explains that the two skip loaders went missing on August 7th while the tractor, SUV vehicle, and bulldozer on August 22. He notes that Mawerere, Nabirye, Bimbonha, and the other three city council security officers are the sole custodians of the missing equipment and the information obtained from them is key.

According to investigations, Nabirye wrote to the City Clerk, Moses Lorika, informing him how one of the security guards pinned Bimbonha for taking the road equipment without the knowledge of the city authorities.

“I am reliably informed that the acting senior law enforcement officer took two skip loaders and a bulldozer from the parking yard,” reads her letter in part.

In a letter written on August 25, Lorika tasked Bimbonha and the other three security guards to explain their failure to alert him about the missing equipment.

“You did not make effort to report to the responsible officials when the equipment was taken, when you are well aware of the due processes involved,” reads his letter in part.
