Kansai Plascon Africa Limited, a subsidiary of Japan based Kansai Paint Co, with major operations in China, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and South Africa has purchased Sadolin Paints in Uganda and other East African Countries.
This was revealed on Thursday by Chris Nugent, the Sadolin Uganda Managing Director during a press briefing at Plascon Factory in Namanve (Sadolin Paints has already been rebranded into Plascon). The officials refused to reveal the transaction costs.
“East Africa is one of the fastest growing regions on the continent, with a rapidly emerging middle class, increased spending power and growing urbanization.
This is a good time to launch into a market that will need our wide range of products to enhance their lifestyles while also increasing our global footprint,” said Wim Bramer, the Managing Director of Kansai Plascon East Africa.
Whereas acquisitions and mergers come with uncertainty both from human resource and operations perspective, no changes are expected in the top management and any other positions at Sadolin.
Officials said that customers should rather expect better and more efficient output from new and improved technologies and more streamlined operations.
“All local dealerships, stores and shops will remain open over the next few months until the transition is completed which include phasing out the Sadolin brand to Plascon,” Nugent said.
Sadolin Paints in Uganda was established in 1963 and has since grown to become the largest paint manufacturer, with a greater share of the country’s paint market, a local production line and recently set up a $10million world class plant in Namanve Industrial Park.
