Japan Injects Shs24bn In Jinja & Soroti Referral Hospitals

The Ministry of Finance and the Japanese Government signed a grant agreement worth JPY 941,000,000 (Shs24.158Bn) that is intended for the improvement of Medical Equipment at Jinja and Soroti Regional Referral Hospitals Project.
The Agreement was signed by Inoue Yoichi, the Chief Representative of JICA in Uganda and Yoshimura Tomotaka, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Japan in Uganda and the medical equipment is expected to strengthen the diagnostic & treatment capabilities of the two hospitals.
Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance expressed gratitude for the longstanding and robust cooperation with the Government of Japan saying, “Our healthcare system faces daunting challenges with regional referral hospitals bearing a substantial burden of providing specialized medical care to a large population,” said Kasaija.
Tomotaka, eputy Head of Mission said Japan regards the health sector as one of the most important areas that deserve such support noting, “I sincerely hope that this grant aid assists Uganda to achieve its target in health sector.”
The Medical equipment to be provided include: operating tables, operating lights for surgery, scanners and anaesthesia machines.
