Police cordons off the scene of crime.

Police in Busoga East is investigating circumstances under which 17 year old Joel Mukama, a resident of Busei B village in Nakalama sub county, Iganga district, was shot dead on Monday.

Eyewitnesses say that Mukama was shot dead by four assailants, who were traveling in a numberless truck of Fuso series, which was carrying suspected farm produce from Kampala side towards the eastern direction.

Annet Tusubira, a resident within the area says that, she saw unidentified men engaging in a scuffle with Kalogo and Mukama, but while attempting to access the scene, she heard the sound of a gunshot and in turn quickly retreated from the area.

The deceased’s father, Moses Kalogo says that, he was herding his cattle to cross the road, however, a speeding truck knocked one of them dead.

Kalogo says that, the truck driver, alongside his two other colleagues who were donned in hoods covering their whole faces jumped out of the vehicle and started battering him unsparingly, while accusing him of causing the accident.

Kalogo stresses that, his son who was seated outside their house, which is located opposite the crime scene noticed the ongoing disagreements and on attempting to inquire what had transpired, another man got out of the truck, shot him and they sped off towards the direction of Mbale areas.

Kalogo, who is currently receiving treatment at Iganga General Hospital’s emergency unit adds that his son sustained stomach injuries, bled profusely and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital.

Busoga East Police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says that, the deceased has been taken to Iganga hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem. However, efforts of tracking down the suspects and ascertaining their motive for the shooting are underway, she added.
