IGG Betty Kamya

The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has revealed that Shs4.1 billion out of the anticipated Shs8 billion was recovered from July to December 2024.

The Inspectorate of Government also received 1,347 complaints in the period under review.

The IGG Betty Kamya made the revelation while handing over the bi annual report (July to December 2024) of the Inspectorate of Government to the Commissioner Esther Afoycan, who represented the speaker of parliament Anita Among.

Kamya says that out of 1,347 complaints received, 1,193 were sanctioned for investigations of which 552 were related to corruption while 552 were complaints from public servants.

Kamya has also revealed that they recorded 324 cases in breach of the Leadership Code Tribunal of which 53 were recommended for prosecution while 26 cases were concluded.

During the period under review, the IG inspected 682 government projects, had 21 convictions at the anti-corruption and leadership code tribunal.

However, Kamya said they are constrained by the limited budget, noting that under the Leadership Code Act they were mandated to investigate 25,000 individuals, but instead the number was increased to over 300,000.

The Commissioner of Parliament, Esther Afoyocan promised to have the report tabled before parliament in the next sitting and welcomed efforts by the IGG to implement the ombudsman role noting that many public servants have been dying in silence.
