Uganda’s Health Minister, Jane Ruth Aceng has revealed that Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake choosing to seek medical treatment abroad is sheer politicking.
This is because Ugandan hospitals could treat them.
“I want to emphasise that we had and still have all the expertise to treat those Members of Parliament that left [for treatment abroad]. Our hospitals are good enough,” Aceng said while addressing the press at Uganda Media Centre Tuesday morning.
She added: “We have specialists to handle the cases the Members of Parliament that went abroad. We are not shamed about our hospitals; we have all requirements for specialised treatment of the MPs that left.”
She was taking about Monday’s Cabinet Resolutions.
She added that the two MPs never g requested for medical referrals.
“ A Senior Consultant is supposed to write a letter requesting the board for a client to be referred abroad,” she said, adding that Zaake was seen by an intern Doctor & a family Physician.
“It must have been a specialist. Internationally, we must be seen as a serious country so we couldn’t let him go on that basis. He had not sought permission from Police & was refused to leave the country,” she said, adding: “When you decline to be touched, we don’t touch you. We only explain. The examination was at the request of Police and it was given to them. The Members of Parliament left on their own. The report from Rubaga Hospital was lacking, we can’t use an intern’s report.”
