Former Vice President Edward Ssekandi
Government through the Office of the President wants Shs3.2bn to secure office space for former Vice President Edward Ssekandi, former Premiers Ruhakana Rugunda and Amama Mbabazi as well as former Security Minister Eli Tumwine who were recently appointed as Presidential Advisors.
The request was made before Parliament’s Budget Committee where Yunus Kakande, Secretary Office of President informed Parliament that the officials were recently appointed by the President and there is need to secure offices for them at Kampala Kingdom building and these offices would be ready in January 2022.
“We have a figure of Shs3.2Bn for office space for presidential advisors. The procurement of office space has been concluded, the offices are partitioned. The contract agreement has been sent to the Solicitor General for clearance Partitioning of the building is ongoing and is expected to be completed by January 2022. This is the money we are seeking to get offices and these offices are being secured,” Kakande said.
Other officials to benefit from the office space bonanza are Amelia Kyambadde- former Minister of Trade, Nakiwala Kiyingi -former Minister for Youth and Children, Sarah Kanyike- State Minister Elderly and PWDs. Kakande however said the offices will cater for all the 20 presidential advisors.
Recently, Premier Robinah Nabbanja informed Parliament that Ssekandi had been appointed as Special Envoy and was earning Shs20M monthly.
Kampala Kingdom owned by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia is already home to offices for Parliament, Ministry of East Africa and Equal Opportunities Commission.
