Farmer In Need Of Shs 10 Million For Operation After Being Shot By Police Officer

Silver Wangalwa, a 20-year-old peasant farmer from Namabasa in the Mbale City Northern Division is in desperate need of Shillings 10 million for an operation after being shot by a police officer.

His aunt, Iren Wandera explains that Wangalwa was working in the garden in Doho cell in Namatala ward when he was shot by Moses Ojoko from Namatala Police Station for allegedly trespassing on his land.

According to Wandera, after being hit in the buttocks, a police patrol picked up Wangalwa and transferred him to General Clinic along Mbale-Kumi road for treatment.

She, however, says that his condition worsened prompting doctors to refer him to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further management.

Doctors at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital advised that Wangalwa required an operation to remove the bullet lodged in his buttocks, which needs money.

The family is now struggling to raise Shillings 10 million without police help.

Denis Pahani, the Industrial City Division Police Commander, says that Ojoko was arrested and released on bond pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He explained that as police, there is nothing much they can do to assist Wangalwa, errant officers are accountable for their mistakes.

This leaves Wangalwa and his loved ones in a difficult position as they urgently need the necessary funds for his operation.
