The market has positively responded to Egyptair’s cargo services from Entebbe International Airport to North America, with the Ugandan community in the USA now able to easily get access to local food from the East African country.

Egypt’s national carrier (Egyptair) that is represented by Jet Fresh Cargo Ltd, commenced its cargo operations from Uganda in February 2024.

Egyptair operates a 737-800 aircraft to Entebbe, in a triangular service that connects via Kigali.  The carrier flies to over 540 destinations, with Entebbe currently served  5 times a week.

Wail Dagash, the Chief Executive Officer at Jet Fresh Cargo, says Egyptair Cargo uplifted its first shipment of chilled fish from Entebbe to New York (JFK) and recorded another success of delivering sun dried fish and Matooke to the Ugandan community in Toronto (YYZ).

“All cargo exported from Uganda is mostly delivered within 24hrs at final destination leveraging the state-of-the-art cold room facilities at Cairo International Airport that ensure perishable cargo arrives in perfect condition,” Dagash says, adding: “We are availing much needed additional cargo capacity for Ugandan Exporters and more specifically SMEs as the type of aircrafts operating to Entebbe can accommodate up to 2 tons per flight.”

Dagash says special cargo freighter flights can be arranged on request.

“Cargo only freighters are available for exporters wishing to uplift loads of 20 to 51 tons upon request,” Dagash.

He explains that Ugandan exporters should know that the situation in the Red Sea has now made it difficult to book sea containers, necessitating the need for air cargo to honor supply agreements.

“We are seeing cargo such as tobacco, clothing, and tea for example moving by air cargo; this in turn is adding more pressure on the already limited air cargo space available,” added Dagash.

He says Jet Fresh Cargo Ltd is focusing on upholding customer service levels from cargo booking, documentation, tracking and reporting until final delivery in an effort to make the exporters’ experience using Egyptair Cargo as seamless as possible.
