Ecobank Uganda has appointed media entrepreneur, Kin Kariisa (in featured photo) as its new Chairman of board of directors.
Kariisa is the CEO of Next Media Services that owns NBS TV.
He replaces Henry Lubwama, who has been the bank’s Chairman Board of directors for the last six years
The Pan-African bank made the revelation on Thursday during a farewell event for the outgoing Board Chairman, Lubwama that was held at Serena Hotel, Kampala.
Kariisa has previously served as board member of the bank.
The bank tasked the new board chairman and his team to invest more in IT innovations so as to grow further the bank.
Karisa commended the outgoing Chairman for his commitment.
“Mr. Lubwama and I joined the board together after Charles Mbire left. I’ve found Mr. Lubwama to be very dependable, committed, well-intentioned, formidable, very calm, and firm,” Kariisa said. He promised to steer the bank to greater heights.
Tumubweine Twinemanzi, Executive Director Supervision at Bank of Uganda commened the good governance practices at Ecobank Uganda.
“ Mr. Henry Lubwama has done very many great things and as BOU, we’re thankful for the way you’ve steered Ecobank. You’ve set the bar high,” he said.
Lubwama said he was “extremely humbled to be honoured”. He noted that the team he has left behind will grow the bank further.
Ecobank marked 10 years of doing business in Uganda last year.
The bank made a net profit of Shs1.54bn in 2017, up from Shs813.3m recorded in 2016, representing a record growth of 89.4%.
