Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation
Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation in the Office of the President, on Friday highlighted Uganda’s growing leadership in Africa’s e-mobility sector during her keynote at the National E-Mobility Expo 2025 at the Kiira Vehicle Plant.
She noted Uganda’s tangible achievements in the e-mobility sector, including the construction of the magnificent Kiira Vehicle Plant equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the production of Kiira EV vehicles and Kayoola EVS buses, the establishment of a local supply chain for electric vehicle components, and milestones such as Kiira Motors securing a Vehicle Identification Number(VIN) for buses manufactured in Uganda.
Dr. Musenero emphasized that these accomplishments position Uganda not merely as a host, but as a continental hub for innovation, manufacturing, and industrial growth in e-mobility, setting a benchmark for other African nations to follow and demonstrating the country’s potential to lead Africa’s sustainable transport revolution.
She further stressed the importance of vision and collaboration in sustaining Uganda’s leadership in the sector. She called on African countries to prioritize interconnectedness over competition, encouraging governments, industries, and innovators to work together to strengthen supply chains, share expertise, and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across the continent.
Highlighting the economic opportunities created by the e-mobility sector, she noted that it goes beyond vehicles. “E-mobility is about creating industries of industries,” she said, pointing to job creation, skills development, and the potential for local entrepreneurship in component manufacturing, maintenance, and technology services.
Concluding her address, Dr. Musenero reminded delegates that Africa’s industrialization journey has begun, emphasizing that leadership is not only about innovation but also about nurturing the next generation of talent. Quoting President Museveni, she said, “Our unity is not a luxury, but a necessity. Vision is dynamic, and together we can achieve it.”
