The Health Ministry is engagement in a campaign to rid the country of malaria.
As part of the activities, government is distributing free mosquito nets across the country.
The Health Ministry PS Dr Diana Atwine met with teams distributing the nets in a morale boosting exercise.
“With Director General, Dr. Mwebesa Henry and colleagues from the Ministry, we met with the teams preparing for nets distribution in Kiboga district, that will start this sunday. We also did support supervision in Kiboga hospital and Bukomero HC4. These visits come with more informed decisions than office reports,” Diana said on Facebook.
Under this campaign, one net is given per two people in a household and over 27 million mosquito nets will be distributed to all countrywide.
The Malaria prevalence has significantly reduced from 42% in 2009 to 19% in 2014 and now to 9.2% in according to the Malaria Indicator Survey, 2018/19.
To further support the COVID fight, the mosquito net campaign sensitization is utilizing COVID taskforces at district and sub county levels and fund media space delivering integrated malaria and COVID messages.
