Today starting at 10am
Kimaanya vs. St Julian
Agape vs. Welden
Buddo vs. Kigezi
Lira TC vs. Jinja SS
With only four places available in Friday’s semifinals of the Copa Coca-Cola, action returns today with all games at Kakyeka stadium.
Yesterday’s elimination of home side Ryakasinga ended in police firing bullets and using tear gas to disperse rioting fans causing all games to be played at one ground.
But the games on card are very tough to call. Kimaanya, who have played the tournament with 12 players, will face off against St Julian Gayaza in what should be a cracker.
Both sides won all their group games and Masaka SS coach Brian Ssenyondo insisted on remaining disciplined.
“We haven’t managed to rest any players but they are playing for themselves and those that were eliminated,” Ssenyondo said.
St Julian haven’t been impressive in their wins but they have managed to get the desired results as evidenced in the victory over battling royal Giant.
Buddo’s title credentials will also be put on the line when they face Kigezi High School. The Kabale side is a tough side with physical players who have beaten opponents down with their approach.
But Buddo have stylish players Masood Kafumbe and Goffin Oyirwoth who can create something out of nothing.
Their coach Simon Mugerwa said the target was to win all 10 games in Mbarara. They wilted in big games as they drew by a similar 1-1 score against Kibuli and Nakaseke and this will be another test for them.
Defending champions Jinja SS, who were unimpressive against Hill View of Kibuku in the second round will have to deal with another battling side, Lira Town College, who conquered Kitende SS while Namutumba’s Agape SS will face off against Mbarara’s Welden, who overcame a tense penalty shootout to win 14-13 against Hands of Grace.
The final is scheduled for Saturday at Kakyeka and will be live on Bukedde TV starting at 3:30pm.
