Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has spoken out on reports that it is withholding the new Cancer Machine over Shs7m tax.
Reports have been circulating on social media after Uganda Cancer Institute failed to unveil the machine toady as it had earlier been communicated.
In a statement dated August16, 2017, URA said “the Cancer Machine was released yesterday (Tuesday) at 3:20PM immediately after lodgment due to the sensitivity and urgency of the matter.”
The tax body added that the machine is tax exempt as there are no taxes payable.
“The responsible parties are making arrangements to take the machine out of the Bonded Ware House,” Vincent Seruma, the Assistant Commissioner Public and Corporate Affairs at URA said, adding that reports circulating on social media that URA is still holding the machine are completely false.
“URA would like to assure the General Public that we are equally happy to have this machine and will continue to support any such efforts for the good of all Ugandans,” he added.
