CID Grills Winnie Over Kiyonga Comments

Uganda’s Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza was on Monday morning grilled by the country’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) ovwer allegedly defaming former Defence Minister Crispus Kiyonga.

Winnie who is also Kasese district Woman Member of Parliament, arrived at CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, ccampanied by colleagues: Hon. Atkins Katusabe, Hon. Robert Centenary and William Nzoghu.

She had been summoned for questioning over comments she made last year about Kiyonga who accused her of defamtion (Libel Against Crispus Kiyonga VIDE CID HQTRS GEF 2432016).

Immediately after the 2016 general elections that a joint Press conference was held at parliament and addressed by Winnie.

This followed the tension in the Rwenzoris.

The then newly elected leaders were concerned as to how the security services were acting in line with the tension.

Winnie chats with colleagues after she left commissioner Ahimbisibwe’s office on Monday afternoon.

He alleges that the statements that were made in that press conference lowered him and his person before the right thinking members of the society.
He equally believed that the said statements if told or heard by his equals would damage his reputation.

Chrispus has been in Parliament for close to 35yrs until of recent when the FDC firebrand Hon. Katusabe Atkins could not spare him.

This is the basis upon which AIGP Grace Akullo issued the police summons to the Leader of the Opposition in the 10th Parliament.

She is to appear before the officer responsible for the questioning. She is expected to be in company of her Barristers Caleb Alaka and Ochieng Evans.
