A delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) led by the Director Competitions,  Khalid Nasser visited and inspected facilities at Entebbe International Airport on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

This is in preparation for the CHAN 2025 scheduled for February 1-24, 2025, in three East African countries (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda).

The delegation was led on a guided tour by the Director Airports and Aviation Security, Eng. Ayub Sooma, who briefed them about the arrival and departure processes for delegates and players. Eng. Sooma assured the delegation that the airport will provide all the required facilitation amenities and advised them to provide prior information on the specific requirements for better facilitation by all stakeholders.

Nakiwala Kiyingi, who represented the State Minister for Sports, informed the delegation that Uganda is committed and ready to host the CHAN in 2025 and AFCON in 2027.

It should be noted that in September 2023, the East Africa Pamoja consortium, comprising Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, was awarded the privilege of hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three Eastern African nations clinched the hosting rights, triumphing over contenders such as South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, and Senegal.

In May this year, Parliament has a  supplementary budget including Shs152Bn meant for the construction of the Hoima City Stadium by National Council of Sports in preparation for the 2027 African Cup of Nations. The construction of the stadium is ongoing.
