Kyadondo East lawmaker, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has been charged with alleged treason, Ugandan state media reports.
Bobi was arrested on Tuesday and detained at Bombo Military barracks following chaotic scenes in Arua district on Monday that left his driver dead.
State owned media, The New Vision Facebook page also posted pictures from police claiming they had been discovered at the hotel where Bobi was residing while in Arua.
Bobi was in Arua to campaign for independent candidate, Kasiano Wadri who is seeking to represent Arua Municipality in the by-election held today.
The reports add that Wadri has been slapped with the same treason charges.
On Monday, the day Bobi’s driver, Yassin Kawuma was killed, opposition supporters alleged pelted President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy with stones as he left a campaign rally for the ruling NRM party candidate. This charge was denied by the opposition.
On Wednesday, the president issued a statement blaming Wadri and Bobi for leading the groups that stoned his car.
