The Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has procured new bull dozers, hydraulic excavators and maintenance mobile trucks to boost Uganda’s agro-industrialization agenda.
This new fleet that landed in Namalere mechanical workshops last week is expected to be launched by President Yoweri Museveni and will be added to the current old fleet to boost investment towards agriculture mechanization which will significantly contribute to increased production and productivity and therefore agro-industrialization agenda.
Eng. Boniface Okanya, the Assistant Commissioner Engineering and Mechanization at MAAIF says the bull dozers will help farmers in bush clearing, valley dam construction, opening up farm access roads, commercialization of aquaculture through aqua parks investments and construction of landing sites across the country.
Farmers will be able to access services of the equipment through their regional mechanization centres under guidelines that will be issued by MAAIF.
The current established regional mechanization centres include; Buwama in Mpigi District, Agwata in Dokolo District, Mbale in Mbale District, Kiryadongo in Kiryadongo District and Namelere in Wakiso District as the center for excellence to coordinate the above regional centers.
