One of META’s tractors on display for sale
Meta Plant and Equipment has officially opened its new offices at Kireka along Kinawataka road, marking what the company describes as the next chapter in the Meta Group’s evolution and a major step forward in supporting the mechanisation of Uganda’s agricultural sector.
Speaking at the launch on Dec.4, company representatives emphasised Meta’s long-term commitment to Uganda and to farmers of all sizes, from small and medium-scale producers to large commercial operators.
Through its partnership with New Holland, Meta is now able to offer a full range of agricultural equipment suitable for different farm sizes and operational needs across the country according to the General Manager Mike Woodward.
Meta Plant and Equipment operates under Maris, the parent company of the Meta Group, in partnership with Oman-based Mustep Overseas Group. According to company officials, this backing reflects a strong foundation built on good corporate governance, transparency, and an owner-driven mindset. They noted that one of the key factors for success in the industry is leadership that understands the importance of relationships and is accessible to customers at all times.
The company said it is determined to maintain close, personal relationships with the farming community. Customers, they stressed, should feel free to contact the general manager directly whenever they are unsatisfied, with a guarantee that their concerns will be addressed. Meta made it clear that its leadership is never too important to engage with clients and that this openness is part of the company’s culture.
Meta Plant and Equipment expressed great optimism about the future of Uganda’s agricultural sector, noting that the country’s journey toward middle-income status depends heavily on the success of agriculture. The company reaffirmed its desire to be part of that journey, highlighting its pride in contributing to Uganda’s food security and its role in strengthening the national food supply chain.
The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving growth within the agricultural ecosystem. Meta encouraged all stakeholders to work together, share contacts and support one another, noting that collective effort is essential in keeping the industry strong.
In a move to further incentivise participation in the agricultural value chain, Meta announced a referral programme. All attendees received a voucher worth $200, which will be paid to anyone who refers a farmer that successfully purchases a tractor from the company. Meta said the initiative is part of its wider effort to expand Uganda’s mechanisation, increase tractor sales, and enhance the country’s food security.
In addition, Meta introduced a special festive offer, announcing a five percent discount on any tractor purchased between the date of the launch and Christmas. This offer, they said, is meant to encourage more farmers and agribusinesses to invest in modern equipment as the year comes to a close.
During a question-and-answer session, the issue of tractor affordability was raised. Meta acknowledged that financing remains a challenge for many farmers, as current interest rates from banks and asset financing companies range between 10 and 18 percent. The company noted that government intervention, particularly through subsidising interest rates, could greatly improve access to machinery and make it cheaper for farmers to mechanise their operations over time.
The launch concluded on a light and celebratory note, with guests invited to share a traditional Ugandan meal including matooke, rice, Irish potatoes and chicken, as Meta Plant and Equipment welcomed attendees into its growing network and its renewed commitment to supporting the business of food in Uganda.
Representatives from partnering banks including Equity Bank, Centenary, dfcu promised clients to approach them to secure for them the tractors and related equipment at friendly terms.
Appolo Okwi, a farmer from Amuria, a district in eastern Uganda is a farmer who has used the company’s machines. “I bought a tractor from META, I have used i. It has no problem apart from the nuts that became loose at some point but were immediately fixed.
“All nuts must be tightened before the tractors are given out,” Okwi said.
