Health Ministry Issues Fresh Guidelines For Schools Over Coronavirus

Uganda’s health ministry has advised school owners not to bar parents from visiting their children as awareness campaigns in the country over the coronavirus intensify.

On Thursday, social media was awash with reports that some schools in the capital Kampala had issued advisories asking parents to stay away from their children until fears of the COVID-19 reduce.

Uganda has no confirmed cases of the coronavirus that has brought much of the developed world to it’s knees.

“I would like to advise that schools in #Uganda remain open and parents allowed to visit their children. Schools are encouraged to follow our guidelines on mass gatherings and allow parents visit their children. To-date, #Uganda has NO confirmed or suspected case of #COVID19,” Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister said on Friday.

Aceng also announced that the Health Ministry had received equipement to help at Uganda’s border points.

” Medical supplies and equipment worth UGX 200M were donated today to the ministry of health by ‘Resolve to Save Lives’ through Infectious Diseases Institute of Makerere to support our #COVID19 preparedness activities. The supplies will be immediately sent to points of Entry. We appreciate the support to keep #COVID19 out of Uganda,” Aceng revealed.
