Supreme Court Sets Date For Age Limit Ruling

Uganda’s Supreme Court has announced that it will deliver a ruling on the Presidential Age Limit Appeal case.

This development was revealed by the deputy registrar of the Supreme Court on Monday.

“Take notice that judgement of this appeal has been fixed for the 18th day of April, 2019 at 10:00AM,” the statement reads.

Kampala lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi, recently tasked the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe to explain why the Supreme Court has delayed to deliver judgement in an appeal, beyond the mandatory 60 days.

Mabirizi, who challenged the constitutional court ruling matter in the age-limit case, contends that the delay has frustrated his efforts to get justice.

The Supreme Court justices led by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe include; Stella Arach Amoko, Eldard Mwangutsya, Apio Aweri, Lillian Tibatemwa, Paul Mugambwa and Jotham Tumwesigye.

Mabirizi’s appeal came on the heels of the Constitutional Court judgment delivered by a panel of five judges at Mbale High Court upholding the scrapping of the presidential age limit.

With the exception of justice Kakuru who dissented in his judgment, the remaining judges said the act was passed in line with Constitutional procedures.
