‘Seven Rwenzururu Guards Have Died Without Trial’

Seven Rwenzururu royal guards are said to have died without trial

Bukonjo West Member of Parliament in Kasese district, Atkins Katushabe has asked government for unconditional release of the Rwenzururu kingdom royal guards if it has failed to try them in court so that they can get justice.

Raising a matter of national importance before parliament, Katushabe reported that about seven of the royal guards have died without trial and their families are living miserable life.

However, the lawmaker didn’t name the guards that have died in Police custody.

Their arrest followed an attack on Buhikira Royal Palace, the seat of the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere by security agencies on November 27, 2016 and the attack left more than 100 people dead.

In response, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga directed the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu to give parliament a status report on the prosecution of Rwenzururu kingdom royal guards within two weeks.
