Ministers Fails To Resolve Doctors’ Strike

The ministerial committee convened to negotiate with doctors to call off their strike has failed to yield results.

Government officials led by the Health Minister, Jane Ruth Aceng met the top leadership of Uganda Medical Association-UMA in a tense meeting held at Statistics House in Kampala.

In her remarks, Aceng said government will not negotiate with UMA on the remuneration of the medical workers, since government deals with unions.

She said while government appreciates the poor working conditions affecting the medical workers, the challenges can only be addressed through legitimate channels.

The Attorney General, William Byaruahanga told the doctors that they hadn’t called them to negotiate but to call them to return to work since their industrial action is illegal.

He also dismissed legal opinions Uganda Medical Association got from Uganda Law Society and Chapter Four Uganda justifying the strike, saying they are wrong.

We are tired of these mediocres, Indeed one to negotiate has to have expertise and experience in negotiations of a certain field.Being a minister is not a qualification for a good negotiator, by the way who selected them oh Uganda
